Creating value

As part of the FCC Construcción Group, for Preval, the creation of collective value rather than individual value is a strategic objective and part of our goal of achieving long-term success. Finding out what holds value for the customer is a way of enhancing our competitive edge, striving to blend what the company values with what customers appreciate by adapting our concept of total value to their expectations.

A sustainable company contributes to development, prosperity, stability and health of the society where it operates, thus creating direct and indirect employment, boosting the economy and creating value for the shareholder.

Quality

All FCC Group companies are responsible for enhancing the company’s reputation as one that works with “quality for sustainable development”. Such a position is acquired through actions that are both environmentally and socially responsible.

FCC Construcción in Panama obtained Quality Assurance certification under ISO 9001: 2008 from the Spanish Association for Standardisation and Certification (AENOR) in 2010.

ISO 9001 certification has prompted a significant change in the structure of the organisation. It enables us to progress towards improved sustainable development over time and to adapt the company’s performance to the needs of both the market and our customers, users and human resources.

Implementation of an ISO 9001 Quality Management System helps increase customer satisfaction by providing greater coherence in our internal processes. This allows us to improve our competitiveness thanks to the quality of our products and services and to optimise performance and effectiveness in meeting the company’s objectives.

Cantera AMPASA (District of La Chorrera, Panama), Cantera La Valdeza (District of La Chorrera, Panama), and Parque Prefabricados La Valdeza (District of La Chorrera, Panama) are some of the Central American firms covered by the certificate.

With regards Preval, the certification covers:

  • a) The operation of quarries and the production and sale of mineral aggregates.
  • b) The production of precast concrete parts.

As part of the ongoing process involved in Quality Management System certification, the certification body performs an annual follow-up audit and a renewal audit is carried out every three years.

Environment

In Preval, we uphold a culture of environmental care, by making ourselves an active part of the society where each of our projects and work centres operate. We strive to contribute to economic and social progress and to improving the quality of life for local people.

We have undertaken initiatives aimed at furthering sustainable development in the environment, such as: reforestation workshops, recycling programs in schools and with FCC employees, field spraying campaigns and participation in events on ecology.

Occupational Health & Safety

All business activities are performed to the high standards upheld across the FCC Construcción Group. They include high standards of Occupational Health and Safety, certified under the OHSAS 18001 standard.

At present, the company is carrying out an intensive campaign on Health & Safety with all its employees. The primary objective of this is risk prevention and health and safety in all work sites and offices.

The campaign is continually publicised and updated at workplaces and relies on the following tools:

  • The Health and Safety Plan for the Project
  • The Panama Safety Handbooks
  • The implementation of formats used in the OHS System
  • Identification of the SSL-2 legal requirements in each country
  • Building safety skills and safe work processes
  • Safe Working Procedures
  • Safety inspections (Implementation of Inspection Point schemes)
  • Safety Ratings (visits made by the Health and Safety Manager and the Head of OHS to assess the success of safety-related actions)
  • Audits to be performed by the Spanish OHS department and specific system Audits
  • Installation of OHS bulletin boards
